Gallery Wall (Pt. 2)

In my previous post I mentioned my Christmas project to put up a few gallery walls around the house with family photos and described the first one in our dining room. The second gallery wall is in our foyer and is made up entirely of black and white candid shots of my daughters Kate and Sara involved in the fine arts with their school. This is such an important part of their lives and we did not have many shots from their performances up around the house.

This is a much more traditional gallery wall in a 3 x 3 grid with all frames being exactly the same. These are new, black, solid wood frames from Golden State Art. They have white mats cut to an 8 x 12 opening. I wanted 8 x 12 instead of 8 x 10 so that I did not have to crop the photos. The photos are giclee deep matte prints mounted on matboard. As with the first gallery, the deep matte helps reduce glare and the matboard prevents bowing of the prints.

Our family decided to go with a 3 x 3 grid instead of 3 x 4 so that it did not overwhelm the wall. Kate and Sara gave input on the shots we used and all that were selected came from this year (2022). They represent band, pep band, orchestra, theatre, chorus, and a talent show. Since we were using new frames, most of the preliminary layout work was done on computer. Once the frames arrived, we laid them out on the floor to try different arrangement and then Sara helped me put up the hooks on our wall in the foyer. We installed all of the hooks before hanging the pictures (using a lot of math), and everyone loved how it turned out. You can see a small progression in the sequence below.
